Benefits of Yoga
(aka Why You’ll Feel So Good)

What are the benefits of yoga? Practising yoga regularly can:

Improve flexibility, balance & strength

Reduce stress and anxiety

Support healthy joints and posture

Help you sleep better

Boost body awareness and confidence

Whether you're on the mat once a week or every day, these benefits build up over time—and you’ll feel the difference..

Where Yoga Comes From The Origin Story

What is the origin of yoga?
Yoga originated in ancient India over 5,000 years ago as a spiritual and physical practice. The word “yoga” means “union”—bringing together body, mind, and breath. While modern yoga focuses on movement (asana), the roots of yoga go much deeper, connecting us to presence, inner stillness, and awareness.
At Wellness on Shore, we honour yoga’s origins while making it accessible to all in a modern, supportive way.

Simple Yoga Exercises We Love

You don’t need a studio or mat to start.
Here are a few beginner-friendly yoga exercises we often teach:
  • Child’s Pose – gentle rest for the spine and nervous system
  • Cat-Cow – warms up the spine and improves posture
  • Downward Dog – stretches the back, hamstrings, and calves
  • Supine Twist – releases tension in the lower back
Want to learn how to do these safely and effectively? Join a class and we’ll walk you through it.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. I’ve never done yoga and I’m not flexible. Can I still join?

Yes! Our classes are designed specifically for beginners and people who think yoga “isn’t for them.” You’ll be guided gently through every movement, with modifications offered to suit your body. Flexibility is not a requirement, it’s a result.

Yoga helps maintain strength, balance, posture, and flexibility, all of which are essential for ageing well. It also improves circulation, reduces stress, enhances sleep, and supports mental clarity. Many of our students in their 40s and 50s say they feel more mobile, centred, and confident after just a few sessions.

Just wear comfortable clothes and you can move in and bring a water bottle. Mats and props are provided at the studio, but you’re welcome to bring your own if preferred. We recommend arriving 5–10 minutes early to settle in.
